Unit 1 Parent Letter

July 31 Welcome to Algebra 1. Today students used a "Find Your Seat" activity to actually find their seat. It was basic number description clues. We then went over PBIS hallway expectations. They received their syllabus which is to be signed and returned tomorrow. Very good start to the new school year.

August 1 Today we went over our class expectations. Students will be taking a show what you know math8 test tomorrow.

August 2 Today students took the show what you know about math 8 test. Homework is to complete worksheet that might have been started in class.

August 3 Today we reviewed prime factorization which led us into simplifying radicals. We went over examples in class and then students worked problems 1-10 in class and we checked them. Homework is to complete worksheet started in class problems 11-20.

August 4 Today we went over homework and then continued simplifying radicals with variables. We went over examples in class. Homework is to complete the evens on the worksheet started in class.

August 7 Today we introduced adding and subtracting radicals. We went over examples in class and homework is to complete the worksheet started in class. Students were assigned their laptop number for class use.

August 8 Today we introduced multiplying radicals. We went over examples in class and homework for 4th period is to complete worksheet started in class. Homework for 6th period is to complete notes and example worksheet started in class.

August 9 Today we introduced dividing radicals. We went over examples in class and homework is to complete worksheet started in class.

August 10 We went over homework and reviewed the set of real numbers by making a tree map thinking map to classify our set of real numbers. Students are to complete the rational vs irrational numbers worksheet for homework. Students worked on IXL.com to practice operations with radicals EE.1, 3, 4

August 11 We went over rational and irrational investigation homework and then reviewed adding and subtracting radicals by a mad lib activity. Homework is to complete worksheet started in class. Quiz will be on Tuesday.

August 15 Students took quiz on rational and irrational numbers and operations with radicals today. No homework, but students did work on simplifying expressions puzzle that they turned in

August 16 Students took notes on polynomials and some vocabulary. We worked examples in class. Students can practice at home ixl.com Z.1 and Y.1. We learned to add and subtract polynomials. Homework is to complete the 12 problem worksheet on adding and subtracting polynomials started in class.

August 17 Students worked on applying polynomial vocabulary on a worksheet. We went over homework of adding and subtracting polynomials. We then learned to multiply polynomials and homework is to complete worksheet started in class.

August 18 Students continued to practice on adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials by working and comparing and sharing. Homework is to complete Practice with Polynomials worksheet which was started in class. Test next week on radicals and polynomials.

August 21 Solar Eclipse Day!! Students who were here took their Math Inventory (MI)

August 22 We handed back quizzes on radicals and we went over them. Students were able to jot down notes for themselves to know what they need to continue to master for test. We went over warm up which was a word problem application of polynomials. Students worked on their Math Inventory (MI) and as they finished, they checked their homework. They then began homework for tonight 3 word problem application of polynomials. Check Friday's homework here.

August 23 We went over homework. Students continued to complete their MI's. Homework is to complete polynomial word problems worksheet and the odd problems of the add, subtract, and multiply radicals expressions worksheet. Test is Friday. We will review tomorrow.

August 24 We went over homework. Students began work on review sheet for unit 1A test. Review sheet answers are here. Completing the review worksheet and studying for the test is homework.

August 25 Students took Unit 1A test. Homework is to watch video on accuracy and precision.

August 28 We handed back and went over Unit 1A test. Students took notes of things they can continue to work on to master the material on the test. We viewed the accuracy and precision video and have a worksheet to complete for homework as well as work up to 20 minutes on tenmarks.com.

August 29 We watched video on dimensional analysis and took notes and worked through some examples. Homework is complete worksheet started in class and to complete USAtestPrep assignments due tomorrow.

August 30 Shorter class periods today because of Early Release. We went over homework and continued working on dimensional analysis with a worksheet which is to be completed for homework. Students are to continue working on assignments in USATestPrep.

August 31 We had students put up some of the homework dimensional analysis problems and explain. We worked together on dimensional analysis multiple conversions and then students were to complete the front of the worksheet started in class for homework. Continue to work on USATestPrep assignments.

September 1 We went over homework by having students put them up on the board and go over. Warm up was a word problem using dimensional analysis.
